Managing a big community all by yourself is not easy. That’s why it is important to delegate responsibilities and assign permissions to some of the users. These users will be known as admins or moderators of your forum. Now, the key is how you choose the moderators or admins for your platform. They could be your virtual team or your friends or maybe regular users of the website.
Adding Moderators to the forum has a lot of benefits. It doesn’t just make it easier to manage the forum but also helps keep it clean from the spammers. Moderators act as a mediator between the admin and user, they have lesser permission than the admin but more than a normal user. They can approve/disapprove posts, comments, and users. They can also suspend/delete inactive users and block users who are spamming on the platform. As I mentioned before, selecting good moderators is key.
In this article, I shall be sharing with you, how you can add moderators to your discourse forum.
Steps To Add Moderator In Discourse Forum:-
Firstly, login to your discourse admin account and head over to the Admin Dashboard. In case you feel lost, click on the icon with 3 horizontal lines in the top right corner, just beside your user icon. After clicking on it, select Admin option from the down menu.
Now, on your admin dashboard, from the top menu select Users option. It will show you the list of all the users who are currently a member of your discourse forum.
From the user list, select the user whom you would want to give moderation permissions. If you want to grant permission to multiple users, you can also take help of the search bar to quickly locate them. You can do so by simply searching them with their email or Username. For example, here we are selecting user_test account. When you find the user, just click on it.
In here, it will show you all the information regarding the selected user. Then, simply scroll down to the Permissions Section/Tab. Now to make that user a moderator in your discourse forum, you have to click on the Grant Moderation button, as shown in the screenshot below.
Similarly, if you want to assign the user admin access in the forum, you can click on Grant Admin. After clicking on the Grant Moderation, you will notice that the user has now become a moderator.
What If You Want To Remove The Moderator?
In case, if you want to remove the user from the moderator role then you have to follow the same procedure as mentioned above. But in the permissions tab of the user, click on Revoke Moderation. After which the user will no longer be a moderator.
We hope that by following the above step by step guide, adding moderators to your forum has been a breeze. And if you are stuck somewhere, or have any queries then please use the comment section.
